'Stand with Israel': White House lights up in blue and white ![]() “Alongside the amazing team at Epic Games, we’re working to enable a touch-friendly version of Fortnite, which will delay the availability of the game,” reads the blog post.Įxplaining the need to develop the touch-friendly version, the post adds that while the best experience of GeForce Now library can be availed on mobile with a gamepad, “touch is how over 100 million Fortnite gamers have built, battled and danced their way to Victory Royale”. Members will be able to enjoy PC games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Destiny 2 Beyond Light, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and more on their iPhones or iPads.įollowing Epic Games’ tiff with Apple, Fortnite is going to be available for iOS users again once it gets launched on the GeForce Now platform. In a company blog, Nvidia stated that the beta version of GeForce Now is currently streaming on iOS Safari and thus any of the service’s over 5 million registered users can open up GeForce Now in mobile Safari using their iPhone or iPad. Now iOS users will be able to play games even if they are not available to download from the Apple App store and this list includes Fortnite. Then again, this probably won't stop Fortnite players from trying and having fun anyway.Popular GPU designer Nvidia has launched a new cloud gaming web app for its GeForce Now service. Despite improvements in streaming technology in recent years, one can't help but wonder just how much latency issues will factor in the overall gameplay experience of GeForce Now subscribers playing Fortnite on their iOS devices. ![]() Of course, streaming Fortnite is far from a long-term solution, and much less preferable than having a native app available on the App Store. What Nvidia and Epic are doing right now is the same thing. Instead of releasing an app on Apple's App Store, Microsoft instead lets Xbox Game Pass subscribers stream games on iOS devices using their browser. For example, Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription bypasses Apple's prohibitive rules against cloud-based game streaming apps to iOS devices and has done so since last year. If it's any consolation, this isn't the first time a big company has circumvented Apple's restrictive App Store rules. This allowed Fortnite to bypass the App Store's 30% cut on all in-app purchases, which, as per Apple's explanations, is a clear violation of the terms and agreement.Įven though Epic eventually "won" the lawsuit against Apple, the courts ruled in Apple's favor as far as their right not to re-list Fortnite on the App Store. ![]() At the time, Apple claimed that Epic Games had breached their agreement by letting players purchase V-Bucks without going through the App Store. Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store permanently back in 2020. It will be interesting to see how Apple responds. The blog post adds that a closed, limited-time beta is scheduled to start next week and GeForce Now subscribers can all register to join. However, because of a "technicality", Nvidia and Epic found a way to make Fortnite available on iOS devices a little over a year after it was first removed.Īccording to Nvidia and Epic's announcement last Thursday, the companies are teaming up for a touch-friendly cloud version of Fortnite. One of the biggest takeaways from the recent Epic vs Apple ruling is that Apple is not letting Epic re-list Fortnite on the App Store anytime soon. ![]() Is Apple just going to let this GeForce Now loophole go? Given how much money Epic stands to make from Fortnite's transactions on iOS devices, Apple will probably find a way to put a stop to this if they can. Nvidia announced more than a year ago that it was bringing Fortnite to mobile users on GeForce Now, but it ultimately delayed the iOS version to team up with Epic for native touch controls and other improvements. In addition to iOS devices, GeForce Now will also have a separate Android version. Rather, Epic Games' hit battle royale will be playable via Nvidia's GeForce Now game-streaming service. However, unlike before, Fortnite won't be returning to the App Store. Just like that, Fortnite is back on iOS devices.īelieve it or not, Fortnite is finally available on iOS devices. ![]()
